FACILITY PROFESSIONAL SPOTHLIGHT
JASON MARTINDALE, FMP
How did you get into FM/ Accidental FM?
I first entered a maintenance program as a short-term opportunity, not realizing it would ignite a long-term career. I enjoyed the hands-on problem-solving, and early on, I was asked to lead a small team through critical repairs during a building shutdown. The pressure was high, but I found that I thrived in that environment — coordinating the work, supporting the team, and getting the job done. That experience opened my eyes to a future in leadership and set me on the path to Facilities Management, where I could blend my technical background with a passion for leading teams and improving operations.
Highlight of your current operation or role as an FM
One of the highlights in my current role as Global Head of Facilities Management at Newmark has been building and scaling high-performing FM teams across large, complex client portfolios. We’ve driven measurable value for clients by integrating technology, improving service delivery, and uncovering cost-saving opportunities. Most recently, we’ve focused on demand reduction strategies that have delivered sustained year-over-year savings while also improving asset performance and supporting long-term sustainability goals.
One challenging experience in my industry
A major challenge I’ve faced is managing rising operational costs while maintaining service quality across client portfolios. Between inflation, supply chain delays, and wage pressure, every dollar needs to work harder. One specific experience involved navigating a sudden spike when global economic conditions triggered an unanticipated rise in utility and labor costs mid-contract, which required immediate reforecasting, renegotiating vendor terms, and identifying areas for demand reduction — all without impacting client satisfaction. It pushed our team to think creatively, act quickly, and prove that strong FM leadership can drive value even in tough financial climates.
