FACILITY PROFESSIONAL SPOTHLIGHT
MARK MINTY
How did you get into FM/ Accidental FM?
I began my Facilities career at Lewis & Clark College in Athletic Facilities. I had worked in sports/athletics with the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers, Oregon State Beavers and Portland State Vikings in Equipment Management and Operations and thought Facilities Management would be a natural next step in my career. I began my commmercial Facilities Management career with CBRE on the Wells Fargo account helping support the Wells Fargo Tower in Downton Portland. I thought I knew “everything” about Facilities Management from my previous experiences and realized very quickly I knew very little about commercial Facilities Management. I had great mentors/managers who gave me the crash course to the industry and fell in love with it.
One off weird experience in the industry
I would say the “One-Off” was more like a “Two-Year” off during the Covid Pandemic. I was at First Tech Federal Credit Union, and we quickly pivoted our entire business operations to a remote environment. The Workplace Services/Facilities team spearheaded an amazing group of leaders to help in the business continuity effort to keep the credit union functioning at full strength while keeping our onsite employees safe and able to do their jobs at a high level.
A highlight of your Facility or Operation
My first highlight is obtaining my CFM credential during Covid. Second would be my current position at Lam Research in Tualatin on the Global Workplace Services team. The highlight is getting to come to work each day with some of the brightest FM’’s, Engineers and Vendors in the Portland, OR area. The level of commitment to safety, sustainability and innovation in the Facilities field is second to none. The GWS team produces high level results day in and day out to support the organization.
