How did you get into FM/ Accidental FM?
As a Facilities Engineer for over 30 years, 20 years of that in healthcare industry, I found myself teaching the new engineers how to work safer, more efficiently and teaching them how to be more successful in their trade. I was becoming the Go to Engineer for all things that needed to be escalated. I took that as a sign to move into a more Leadership role and become a supervisor/manager since the feedback I was getting from my peers was positive and supportive.
One off Weird Experience in the industry?
That’s an easy one – the pandemic and the wildfire smoke was something no one really trained on and we (industry) had a lot of guess work to do but never really drilled or learned it coming up the ranks. Now we know what to do better the next time.
Highlight of your facility or operation?
A highlight of my operation was when I was told by upper management that I run a tight ship and my team was the most efficient they’ve ever seen including getting work done without breaking my budget. That means I am doing my best to support them and my crew to their full potential. A feel good moment for me.
